Las ONG europeas contrarias a la política de drogas celebrarán su asamblea de 2008 en Vitoria

La asociación alavesa amigos de maría ejercerá como anfitriona
Será la primera vez que la cita de esas 150 entidades se celebra en el Estado.

Las voces críticas que se alzan en Europa para exigir un cambio en la política prohibicionista sobre drogas se reunirán el próximo verano en Vitoria para celebrar su cumbre. Un hecho excepcional ya que se trata de la primera vez que esta asamblea visita el Estado.

Representantes de las 150 organizaciones no gubernamentales aglutinadas bajo la asociación Encod expondrán en julio de 2008 en la capital alavesa su objetivo común de acabar con la persecución que sufren los usuarios de determinadas sustancias. Un acto que, si el Ayuntamiento presta su apoyo, se celebrará en el Palacio Europa.

La iniciativa responde al llamamiento que la asociación vitoriana Amigos de María realizó la pasada semana en la reunión que el Consejo de ONG europeas sobre política de drogas, Encod, llevó a cabo en Bruselas. El ofrecimiento del portavoz de la agrupación gasteiztarra, Paco Mascaraque, de organizar en la capital alavesa la próxima cumbre del organismo europeo fue acogida con entusiasmo por sus responsables, por lo que, por primera vez en su historia, celebrarán su asamblea anual en España.

La cumbre, “un multitudinario encuentro antiprohibicionista” según describió Mascaraque, se convertirá en una “feria de la información” en la que todos podrán obtener datos actuales y veraces sobre las drogas en Europa y en el mundo, su marco jurídico y su realidad social. El evento, cuyo devenir será seguido con interés por todas las asociaciones europeas vinculadas al ámbito de las drogas en cualquiera de sus variantes, tendrá lugar los días 21 y 22 de junio del año que viene.

El emplazamiento del acto será un aspecto que los responsables de Amigos de María, entidad organizadora, deberá consensuar con las distintas administraciones. En principio, la intención de sus responsables pasa por celebrar la cumbre en el Palacio Europa, aunque Mascaraque manifestó que está “abierto a otras opciones”.

Ayuda institucional

Como parte del trabajo que Encod desarrolla para la consecución de políticas de regulación de drogas “justas y efectivas”, en numerosas ocasiones ha dirigido charlas, manifiestos y declaraciones de intenciones a la Comisión de Estupefacientes de la Organización de las Naciones Unidas y a diferentes organismos de la Unión Europea. Para la asamblea que ya se prepara en la capital alavesa, los responsables de Amigos de María esperan contar con el apoyo y la participación de los máximos responsables locales y estatales en materia de drogodependencias, como la directora del Gobierno Vasco Belén Bilbao, y con figuras mediáticas expertas en este campo, como el escritor e investigador Antonio Escohotado.
