LA HOJA DE COCA TIENE AMIGOS EN EUROPA

DE LA ÁSOCIACIÓN CULTURAL ‘AMIGOS DE LA HOJA DE COCA’



AMBERES – 12 de marzo

La asociación cultural « Amigos de la Hoja de Coca » saluda la propuesta realizada hoy por el presidente de Bolivia, Evo Morales, ante una reunión de la ONU en Viena, para levantar la prohibición internacional de la hoja de coca. La asociación, compuesta por ciudadanos residentes en diferentes países europeos, se reunió a la ocasión del Día del Acullicu (Consumo Tradicional de la Hoja de Coca) en Bolivia.

Los socios de la asociación Amigos de la Hoja de Coca practicamos el akulliku (masticado de la hoja de coca), algunos por muchos años, y hemos constatado que no es nociva. Al contrario, tenemos conocimiento de una gran cantidad de obras científicas de las que consta que el consumo de la hoja de coca en su estado natural tiene muchos beneficios para la salud física. Al mismo tiempo, ni existe ni un documento científico que demuestra que consumir hoja de coca provocaría daños.

Desde 1988, el consumo tradicional de la hoja de coca es legal en Bolivia y Perú, con el permiso de las Naciones Unidas. La venta de la hoja de coca se realiza libremente y es accesible a todos. Los turistas pueden comprar y consumir hoja de coca en estos países, pero, debido al hecho de que se encuentra en la lista de sustancias controladas adjunta a la Convención de la ONU, llevar hojas fuera de estos países es ilegal.

Los gobiernos occidentales durante décadas han intentado erradicar la hoja de coca. Han gastado miles de millones de euro en operaciones militares y policiales que han provocado confrontaciones violentas con los campesinos andinos que sobreviven gracias al cultivo de la hoja de coca. Estas operaciones no han tenido ningún resultado en disminuir la producción ilegal de la cocaína o la pobreza de la población rural en la región andina. Por lo tanto, los productores de la hoja de coca siguen obligados de vender gran parte de su cosecha al mercado ilegal.

Los socios de la asociación ‘Amigos de la Hoja de Coca’ deseamos contribuir a la reparación de una injusticia a la población originaria de los Andes. Queremos contribuir a incrementar el mercado legal de la hoja de coca, y facilitar un sistema de compra de una cantidad reducida de hojas de coca para el uso personal de nuestros socios. Utilizando medios legales y respetando las reglas del comercio justo, nos proponemos colaborar con campesinos productores en Perú, Colombia y Bolivia que están dispuestos a cumplir con las normas ecológicas y sanitarias actualmente vigentes.
