Österreichische Cannabis-Bürgerinitiative: Bewegung in allen Parteien

Die von mittlerweile fast 30.000 ÖsterreicherInnen unterzeichnete und damit bisher dritt-erfolgreichste Bürgerinitiative zur Herausnahme von Cannabis aus dem österreichischen Suchtmittelgesetz (Cannabis-Bürgerinitiative) bleibt weiterhin Thema im Parlament. Laut Mitteilung des Parlaments vom Montag abend wurde die Behandlung der Initiative bis auf weiteres vertagt und kann damit weiterhin unterzeichnet werden.

Hanf-Institutsobmann Toni Straka sagte am Mittwoch, „als Vertretung von 500.000 regelmässigen und noch einmal so vielen Gelegenheitskonsumenten sind wir hocherfreut, dass sich das österreichische Parlament weiterhin ernsthaft und ausführlich mit dem Brennpunkt-Thema der Entkriminalisierung einer Million ÖsterreicherInnen auseinandersetzt. Der Parlaments-Aussendung zufolge ist eindeutig ein Trend zur Verschiebung der Cannabis-Thematik aus dem Strafrecht zu entnehmen. Dort ist das älteste und unschädlichste Heilmittel der Welt auch definitiv falsch angesiedelt.“

Laut dem Hanf-Institut könnte Österreich damit auch in der EU eine führende Rolle in der evidenzbasierten Betrachtung von Cannabis als Heil- und Genussmittel einnehmen. Bisher ist der Cannabis-Konsum schon in 10 EU-Ländern und der Schweiz entkriminalisiert.

„Auf Basis der Zahlen aus Colorado kann man in Österreich mit rund 200.000 Cannabis-PatientInnen rechnen“, sagte Straka.

Internationale Weichenstellung bei UN-Drogenkonferenz im März in Wien

Global geht der Trend mittlerweile eindeutig in Richtung Entkriminalisierung. Die diesjährige UN-Drogenkonferenz von 9. bis 17. März wird nach Einschätzung des Hanf-Instituts die internationalen Weichen für die Neuorientierung der weltweiten Drogenpolitik stellen, die bei der UNGASS 2016 das grosse Thema sein wird.

Österreichische Cannabis-PatientInnen werden erstmals bei dieser Konferenz durch das Hanf-Institut in Kooperation mit der europäischen Legalisierungs-NGO ENCOD vertreten.
