KONOPIJELEK
On the first spring day – March 21, 2008 – Bushka Bryndova, a famous citizen activist for drug policy reform together with Dusan Dvorak, a top Czech addictologue, started ‘Konopijelek‘ (Cannabis is Medicine) a civic
initiative for introduction of the principle of legal use of cannabis
for medical purposes into the Czech law system.
They worked out a proposal of new paragraphs for the new Penal code
that is presently being discussed in the Czech Parliament and sent to all Czech lawmakers as an open letter signed by 77 personalities
of our public life and patients using cannabis for treatment.
They asked a group of lawyers with experience in constitutional law to
make an analysis of the relationship cannabis versus Czech Constitution.
Their opinion was that the ban of cannabis is violating fundamental
human rights and liberties guaranteed to citizens by the Charter of
Fundamental Rights and Liberties, which makes an indivisible part of
the Constitution.
