Charter Marijuana 2007

Police found eight doses of marijuana in a pocket of an eighteen year old Marek B. from Moldava upon Bodva, Kosice county. He is threatened with up to 5 years in prison.

We, the signatories of the Charter Marijuana 2007 appeal, recieve this kind of information with a deep concern and strongly protest against criminalization of anyone for acts related to growing, posessing, using and to any other manipulation with marijuana whatsoever.

We consider legislative classification of marijuana among „drugs“, which are from the technical point of view dangerous and addictive substances, an essential mistake and manifestation of ignorance.

We maintain a view that the criminalization of persons belonging to marijuana subculture is motiveless and arrogant manifestation of harassment and is based on no rational grounds.

We find criminalization of marujuana highly misleading among society, because many marijuana users can misjudge all other synthetic drugs as harmless. However these represent a high risk of addiction development, mental and physical health damage as well as social degradation.

Even if many of us are not marijuana consumers, in solidarity with persons prosecuted for acts related to marijuana by state bodies, we state with full seriousness that we identify and agree with the acts and consider them our own.

We particularly consider criminalization of marijuana possesion as a heavy and forcible encroachment on referred persons privacy, because every full-fledged person has an inalienable right to judge what is or is not right for him/her.

As long as the state tolerates socialy highly dangerous and addictive substance –alcohol – which it takes financial advantage of, then in this context it does not have any moral right to prohibit anything else, and that is why we reserve a right to ignore prohibitions of this kind. We remark that we do not follow a prohibition of alcohol, because we find all prohibitions devious.

In this sense we strongly appeal to competent state bodies to stop all the criminal prosecutions for acts related to marijuana and to immediately realize actions leading to exclusion marijuana from under force of criminal legislation.
