DEFENDER LA COCA ES RESPETAR EL CATO

La batalla internacional para evitar que se cuestione a la hoja de coca y el acullico depende de que los productores no excedan el cato de coca, dijo ayer el presidente Evo Morales.


El Mandatario lanzó el mensaje en un acto desarrollado en la Central Isiboro A, en presencia de cientos de cocaleros, en el marco de una visita que hizo el fin de semana a diversas poblaciones del Chapare cochabambino.

“La mejor forma de lograr la legalización y no criminalización internacional de la coca es impedir que crezcan los cultivos ilegales”, señaló, según un reporte de ABI.

Así, manifestó su convencimiento de que, si toda la coca que se produce fuera al mercado legal no habría limitaciones para su cultivo. Y recordó que se emprendió una batalla internacional para lograr que se respete la coca y el masticado de la hoja (acullico), por lo que deben sumarse a la misma todos los bolivianos y ciudadanos de otras naciones donde la hoja es consumida.

En ese marco, añade el reporte, las dirigencias de las federaciones pusieron en marcha el control social para impedir el extremo. Los productores afiliados a las Seis Federaciones del Trópico asumieron el compromiso de cultivar solamente un cato (plantación de 1.600 metros cuadrados).

La determinación data de mediados de junio de este año, cuando las seis federaciones de cocaleros de el Chapare determinaron, además, castigar a sus afiliados con la expulsión del pueblo y la reversión de su terreno si es que en éste existe más de un cato de coca y fosas de maceración.

Morales reiteró que el Gobierno seguirá adelante con su lucha para evitar la criminalización internacional de la coca, que en su estado natural no es una droga y que, contrariamente a sus detractores, existen estudios de institutos internacionales que establecieron que posee propiedades alimenticias y para la salud.

“Aquellas personas que no respeten el acuerdo del cato de coca deben ser sancionadas porque ponen en riesgo a la propia hoja de coca”, sentenció el Mandatario.

De acuerdo con el Viceministerio de Defensa Social, actualmente en Bolivia existen aproximadamente 30.900 hectáreas de cultivos de coca; sin embargo, el 10 de septiembre próximo se conocerá con exactitud cuántas son, ya que para esa fecha se tiene prevista la presentación de la nueva estrategia de lucha contra el narcotráfico y de reducción de cultivos.

El titular de esa cartera de Estado, Felipe Cáceres, adelantó que ese día presentarán los resultados del monitoreo de cultivos de coca y del estudio integral de la hoja.
