LIBERTAD PARA CULTIVAR

Solicitamos a la ONU que se establezca el derecho de todo ciudadano adulto del mundo a cultivar y poseer plantas naturales para uso personal y no comercial, usando todo equipo técnico que exista para ello.

Durante miles de años, se ha cultivado en todo el mundo cannabis, hojas de coca, adormidera y otras plantas para usarlas como medicina para el cuerpo y la mente, o para otros usos prácticos. Hoy día, al menos 35 millones de personas de la Unión Europea y más de 200 millones de todo el mundo continúan usando alguna de estas plantas.

Sin embargo, desde 1961, siguiendo los dictados de una Convención de la ONU que se aplica en casi todos los países del mundo, estas plantas están prohibidas. La gente ha sido asesinada, torturada, encarcelada, estigmatizada y arruinada por cultivarlas, comerciar con ellas o consumirlas.

El consumo de drogas puede causar problemas, especialmente entre gente joven. Pero el hecho de que las drogas estén prohibidas tiene consecuencias desastrosas. Lleva a los consumidores a estilos de vida que resultan nocivos para ellos y para otros, y crea problemas de salud que se podrían evitar con facilidad. La prohibición de drogas cede el control del mercado de drogas al crimen organizado. Mientras se gastan grandes cantidades de dinero público en la guerra contra las drogas, la realidad evidencia que estos esfuerzos no sólo resultan ineficaces sino incluso contraproducentes.

ENCOD es una plataforma europea de ciudadanos que desea abordar los problemas de las drogas aplicando un enfoque inteligente y eficaz. Creemos que sólo la regulación legal del mercado de las drogas reducirá esos problemas. Tal regulación mejorará las condiciones de vida de millones de personas y disminuirá significativamente una de las principales fuentes de ingreso delictivas.

Uno de nuestros objetivos es modificar la Convención sobre drogas de 1961. Solicitamos a la ONU que se establezca el derecho de todo ciudadano adulto del mundo a cultivar y poseer plantas naturales para uso personal y no comercial, usando todo equipo técnico que exista para ello. Al mismo tiempo, se debería permitir que países autónomos experimenten con políticas no basadas en un régimen prohibicionista.
