Coca 2009 – da perseguição à proposta

Experiências do passado e perspectivas futuras numa política européia em relação à folha de coca e um possível mercado livre para derivados tradicionais legais na Europa.

Com este título, ENCOD organizou no Parlamento Europeu em Bruxelas uma meia jornada de debate e reflexão, no dia 4 de março de 2009

Participaram neste debate vários Membros do Parlamento Europeu, representantes de organizações sociais e especialistas da Europa, Norte e a América do Sul.

O evento organizou-se com o objectivo de conseguir apoio desde Europa para a proposta de permitir a comercialização de derivados tradicionais da folha de coca produzidos no marco do desenvolvimento sustentável e comércio justo.

No dia 12 de março de 2008, o Parlamento Europeu aprovou um relatório com a seguinte recomendação: “pede à Comissão Européia e aos estados-membros da União Européia que explorem as diferentes atitudes de colaborar com as organizações da sociedade civil comprometidas na promoção de substâncias derivadas da folha de coca para usos estritamente legais, garantindo ao mesmo tempo o uso seguro de ditas substâncias”.

Como plataforma de organizações sociais, empresas e indivíduos representando a sociedade civil européia ENCOD está a unir esforços com organizações de produtores de coca da Bolívia para elaborar um possível modelo para a comercialização sustentável de derivados tradicionais da folha de coca na Europa produzidas na Bolívia sob um estrito controle social e governamental.
