Haia, 3 de dezembro de 2008. Terminou ontem o Tribunal da Cannabis em Haia com a conclusão final de que a proibição da cannabis, de fato, trás mais malefícios que benefícios. Representantes do Partido Democrata Cristão (CDA) não conseguiram convencer um juiz independente do contrário. Em nome dos organizadores, Joep Oomen, porta-voz, lançou um apelo aos membros do parlamento holandês que solicitem ao governo a abolição dessa proibição, o mais rapidamente possível.

Foi oferecida uma quantia de 200.000 euros ao partido político que fosse capaz de convencer um tribunal independente dos efeitos positivos da proibição da cannabis.

Os organizadores tiveram dificuldades em encontrar pessoas a favor da proibição. Oomen: “Não há nenhum médico na Holanda que esteja disposto a sustentar a afirmativa de que a cannabis é um grande perigo à saúde pública e que uma proibição teria qualquer efeito positivo.”

De todos os partidos políticos só o CDA esteve disposto a aceitar o desafio. Tanto o prefeito de Rotterdam Leonard Geluk, quanto o membro do parlamento Cisca Joldersma, propuseram apenas a continuidade da limitação do número de coffeshops.

Perito em argumentação e filósofo da lei, Hendrik Kaptein, presidente do tribunal, criado para esta finalidade, demoliu a defesa dos democratas cristãos. Diante de uma platéia de cientistas, ex-policiais, proprietários de coffeeshops e ativistas da cannabis, ele chamou os argumentos de “falácias” e “absolutamente inúteis”.

O tribunal não conseguiu encontrar qualquer fundamento contra a argumentação de legalizar o mercado da cannabis, proposto por Hans van Duijn, ex-presidente da Associação de Polícia Holandesa e um membro da LEAP. De acordo com Van Duijn, o CDA, promovendo a continuidade da proibição da cannabis – é responsável por 50% da criminalidade na Holanda, e a cada ano, por um bilhão e meio de euros, de dinheiro de impostos, desperdiçados em uma guerra inútil contra as drogas . Nenhuma tentativa de contradizer tais argumentos foi feita por Joldersma.
