Marc Emery, Canada
Marc Emery is a well-known activist for cannabis legalization in Vancouver. A retail store owner, and editor of Cannabis Culture Magazine, on July 29th, 2005 he was arrested for selling marijuana seeds over the Internet. The arrest occurred at the request of the United States. Emery was charged by the US even though he had never operated south of the border. After a long judicial fight over his extradition, Marc Emery was finally extradited the United States on 20 May 2010 and sentenced to 5 years behind bars on 10 september 2010.
