Hotel Lev, Ljubljana

The purpose of this and all other forthcoming seminars in the Demystifying Cannabis series which will be organised in the next few months is to spread new knowledge gained in this field and to make it known to legal experts as well as other experts, policy-makers and the general public in Slovenia.

Within the context of harm reduction activities in the field of drug use, »ONEJ – Association of Prekmurje Initiative« organizes second seminar in the Demisifying Cannabis series titled Cannabis & Law: Prohibition vs. Regulation with international participants, which will be held on Friday, 6th June 2014 at the Hotel Lev in Ljubljana, Slovenia.

At the seminar Cannabis & Law: Prohibition vs. Regulation, leading authorities in this field will present practices and impact of prohibition and regulation of Cannabis in Europe (The Netherlands, Spain, Portugal) and different countries around the world (USA, Uruguay) to Slovene experts and the general public.

We decided to organize the Demystifying Cannabis seminar series with international participants due to several reasons, the most important being: current events concerning the draft law on cannabis in Slovenia, Symposium on the medical use of cannabinoids (SEEA, 5th to 6th February 2014, Cankarjev dom, Ljubljana, Slovenia), February’s public debate on the draft law on cannabis in the Slovenian Parliament and pointing from those events lack of knowledge of professionals and the public about this issue.

The purpose of this and all forthcoming seminars in the Demistifying Cannabis series, which will be organised in the next few months, is to spread new knowledge gained in this field and to make it known to legal, medical as well as other experts, policy-makers and the general public in Slovenia. Practices and impact of prohibition and regulation of Cannabis in Europe and different countries around the worldwill be presented at the seminar Cannabis & Law: Prohibition vs. Regulation by the following experts:

Frederik Polak, PhD: psychiatrist, member of The Netherlands Drug Policy, Foundation and VOC (The Netherlands)

Jorge Roque: Lawyer and Drugs Reform activist, Director of Diferença Real, ENCOD representative (Portugal)

José Carlos Bouso, PhD: Clinical Psychologist, Scientific Projects Director at ICEERS
(Spain)

Joshua Kappel, Esq.: Partner at Vicente Sederberg LLC, Associate Director Sensible Colorado (USA)

Bojan Dobovšek, PhD: Associate Professor Faculty of Criminal Justice and Security, University of Maribor (Slovenia)

We are certain that organization of the seminar in the Demisifying Cannabis series titled Cannabis & Law: Prohibition vs. Regulation, will contribute to greater knowledge about the practices and impact of prohibition and regulation cannabis in the Republic of Slovenia and facilitate political decision on this issue, as we cannot rely on domestic research due to current legislation and classification of Cannabis in first group of illicit drugs . During a period of several days, the event will also offer an excellent opportunity for exchange of knowledge, collaboration and networking of Slovene legal as well as other experts and policy makers with invited lecturers.

Honorary Patron of the seminar is the President of the Republic of Slovenia Borut Pahor.
