PRESS RELEASE OF THE LEGALISE CANNABIS ALLIANCE
19 MAY 2007
The Legalise Cannabis Alliance (LCA) are outraged that the Government have
restricted the distribution of the Depart of Heath and Forensic Science
Service updated advice and warnings on cannabis contaminated with glass
particles to statutory authorities such as Primary Care Trusts, doctors,
clinics and pharmacies, etc [1]
We can only hope the information comments provided below will inspire you to
tease a statement from; Ministers, MP’s, and government official who are
involved in community health and safety at all levels of society.
Alun Buffry, spokesman for the alliance that campaigns
for the legalisation and utilisation of cannabis (hemp) said: “Telling the
doctors is all well and good, but that won’t stop people buying and smoking
the stuff….”It’s a bit after the fact! It’s the users who need to be
warned.
“Imagine if this was about contaminated cigarettes and all the Government
did was to warn doctors about patients who have become ill through smoking
by saying that smoking is bad for the health anyway.
“In the case of tobacco, of course, packets would be removed from the
shelves immediately. Not so with cannabis, this cannot be done. Greedy
dealers will continue to sell as long as people buy, and people will
continue to but until they realise just how dangerous the glass particles
can be when inhaled. The buyers need to be warned and the dealers are not
going to do that.
“Government is ignoring the users – maybe they think they deserve what they
get! But this is a very serious health issue that has arisen due to the
illegal status of cannabis and follows a clamp down on home-growers
resulting in an increase in imported and possibly contaminated cannabis, to
fill the gap in supply.”
NOTE – A secondary Question: Does this latest information reinforce the
views of those who argument: blanket prohibition on cannabis creates the
atmosphere for dodgy commercial growers and dealers bulking up their profits
by adding harmful substances with little or no concern for the end
consumer.. that, allowing the cultivation of a limited number of cannabis
plants (or at least reducing maximum sentances) for personal and social use
may just be a better way of protecting the cannabis consumer (especially the
young) from the health and safty risks associated with glass-grass!
