Mujeres indígenas convocan a jornada en favor del mascado de coca

La principal organización de mujeres indígenas de Bolivia convocó para el 26 de enero una jornada de mascado de la hoja de coca para defender su uso y apoyar la gestión gubernamental para que Naciones Unidas elimine la prohibición de esta práctica.

“Vamos a demostrar que la hoja de coca no es cocaína, sino parte de nuestra cultura que debemos defender, porque nos quita el hambre, es medicina, cura enfermedades, como el reumatismo y la diabetes”, dijo este jueves la dirigente de la organización campesina de mujeres, Felipa Huanca, a medios locales.

Huanca informó que la jornada de masticación o ‘acullico’ -como se llama en lengua aymara- será el miércoles 26 de este mes en distintas plazas de La Paz, con la degustación de la milenaria planta y la exposición de productos elaborados en base a la coca, como refrescos, pastillas, tortas, galletas y pan.

La dirigente de la organización dijo que la coca es “una Biblia para el pueblo boliviano, porque está presente en todas las actividades, en la que se puede leer y comunicar los problemas y las alegrías, contactarnos con la Pachamama (Madre-Tierra) y la naturaleza”.
La hoja de coca -materia prima de la cocaína- está incluida en una lista de sustancias prohibidas por parte de la ONU, al igual que su masticación, cuya práctica el gobierno boliviano intenta despenalizar.

El canciller David Choquehuanca se encuentra de gira por varios países europeos en busca de apoyo a esta causa.
El 31 de este mes se cierra el plazo para que los países se pronuncien sobre el tema. Estados Unidos ya manifestó el miércoles su oposición al pedido boliviano.

La masticación de la hoja de coca es una práctica ancestral de las culturas aymara y quechua de Bolivia, Perú y el norte de Argentina.
Según datos de la ONU, en Bolivia hay unas 30.500 hectáreas de coca, de las cuales solo 12.000 son reconocidas como legales para usos tradicionales.
